I Keep Finding Neat Things On Craigslist

Why do these things always come when I either do not have any money or don’t have a place to put it...

While perusing the Craigslist for random cars I don’t need I stumbled across this. It is a 1995 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Brickyard 400 Pace Car Edition.

Holy cow has the pagoda changed in 20 years.

When NASCAR came to Indy in 1994, it was kind of a big deal. This was the first time a racing event that wasn’t Indycars had been run at the speedway in nearly 70 years. The field was lead to the green flag by a 1995 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Pace car. That pace car now resides in the basement of the Hall of Fame Museum, in fact all of the primary pace cars from the Brickyard live down there, so your chances of finding an actual pace car from Indianapolis are pretty slim (usually each event has about 4 of them).

This is what the cars looked like from the factory (except the grille lights).

For the inaugural race, Chevrolet built 400 of these Brickyard Edition Monte Carlos, and sold them at dealers throughout the Midwest. What is the difference between this and a regular Monte Carlo. Just about nothing. You get a nice leather interior, some embroidery, and stickers. And a nice souvenir of the 1994 Brickyard 400.

This example seems really nice, the interior looks excellent with only the floors needing attention, and 85k miles isn’t too bad for 20+ years old. It has definitely been used, but well taken care of.

As a fan of NASCAR, and an on and off seasonal employee of IMS, I have many wants for this car. My intent would be to restore it with the original decals and maybe do a full replica with the Whelen lights system.

But alas, the time and money is not right. Also my apartment complex is adamant on only having one vehicle per resident. (I have tried listing myself as a roommate under the stipulation of having to live with myself, they didn’t buy it.) Maybe if it is still there after the winter...

Wow, that’s a NP even for a run of the mill MC in that shape. Granted the 3.4L is gonna need timing belts soon if not already done.
